My last ERT training session was this morning. Of all the things I’m going to miss about this place, ERT is the thing I’ll miss the most. I love being able to train for structural fire fighting, bush fire fighting, high ropes rescue, medical scenarios, motor vehicle accident rescue, hazmat… everything! The team are an awesome bunch and I’ve learnt so much. I’ve applied to join the SES so I hope that comes through soon. I just want to volunteer somewhere in an emergency response capacity. Anyway, if my job ever falls through I’ll become a firey. ;)
10 station circuit, 45 secs a station, of such wonderful activities as:
- crazy ab crap
- DB lunges
- renegade rows
- stand-up stationary bike (on resistance is futile setting = extreme pain in the arse)
- ring rows
- jumping squats with a 180 twist
- mountain climbers
Yeah, we did that twice and then once really quickly at 20sec a station for a blast of vomit inducing intensity. Then stretches where everyone makes fun of me for being uber bendy (as usual).
Scenario was rescuing a haul truck driver with a suspected spinal injury. I like playing “calm the patient and be medic”, so I did that for a bit then helped rig up the ropes and lower him on the stretcher.
All while cramping like crazy and getting phone calls from my nutter of a father. No rest for the wicked.
